ASKEW, ESKEW, REYNOLDS posted by Pat Eskew on Wednesday, January 1, 1997: My grandfather was Richard ASKEW (ESKEW) born in Sumner County, TN on 28 Sep 1830. He married Margaret Emily REYNOLDS on 15 Aug 1853 in Pittsfield, IL. They had nine children: Alfred, b. in IL; Harriett, Archibald, John W., Ida Almanine, Charles & Thomas (twins), all born in Macon County MO; and Franklin and Joseph L, born in Randolph Co., MO. The family later resided in Laynesville, a riverboat township in Saline County that no longer exists, but which was located near Slater. My father was Thomas. He grew up in Slater, attended school in Slater, and started working for the railroads at Slater. Later, he chose to spell his name ESKEW — and I think Frank and Joe did also. Richard died on 12 Apr 1914 at Higginsville, MO. Margaret Emily Reynolds Askew died 11 Feb 1917 at Springfield MO. I obtained this info by researching Richard's Civil War record. GARRETT, HANEY posted by Juanita DaCosta on Wednesday, January 1, 1997: Seeking information about my Grandparents Gilbert M. GARRETT and Mary A. HANEY, both born in Missouri. Gilbert was born 1859 and Mary was born 1869. Gilbert was a Brick Layer when my father, John Henry Garrett was born October 3, 1887 at Ingram, Texas in Kerr County. Have found nothing about them except their marriage license from Stephenville, Erath County, Texas. Any help in this search would be greatly appreciated. HARDING posted by Tom Harding on Wednesday, January 1, 1997: John Lackland HARDING was a farmer in Grand Pass. Relocated from MD in 1855 with his wife Henrietta. Had following children in Grand Pass, MO. Eleanor - 1856, John Lackland Harding III - 1857, Harolde - 1859, Frank - 1861, Joseph C. - 1862, Robert - 1864, Henrietta 1873. Fought with the Confederacy, returned after the war to his farm. Have 1870 Census listing him back in Grand Pass with family. Eleanor and Frank were not listed. At some time in the mid 1870's, John may have died and Henrietta sold the farm. She is buried in MD, and we only have record of Joseph, who moved to PA. Trying to find out if John III stayed and ran the farm after his fathers death. Am trying to find out if John Lackland Harding Jr is buried in MO, at the Mount Nebo cemetery.

EXLER, HOPKINS, JACKSON, MCCLOUD posted by Gene Jackson on Wednesday, January 1, 1997: Looking for descendants of Mary Ada "Addie" JACKSON who married Henry Wallace HOPKINS, Jr., on June 13, 1875 in Phelps County, MO, then moved to Saline County. Their children: Alice, Clara, Lawrence, Alvin, Della, Celia and Sylvester on the 1900 census for Marshall Twp. Daughter Della m. an EXLER and Celia m. a MCCLOUD. I'd appreciate contacting anyone with links to these people--and also appreciate cemetery lookups, if they are available in Saline County.

CORBIN, MCHATTON, MELTON, MILTON posted by Danna Lewis Kelley on Wednesday, January 1, 1997: Looking for Robert W. MCHATTON and wife Matilda CORBIN, she may have died in Saline County in May 1893. Also, her sister Louisa CORBIN who married James McHATTON and she may have also died in Saline County. Also, my greatgrandmother Louisa Francis CORBIN , daughter of Marion CORBIN who died 1865 in KY, and Catherine MILTON/MELTON Corbin who was born in 1851 in MO - don't know where.

ROBBINS posted by Louise S. Godwin on Wednesday, January 1, 1997: I am a descendant of William H. ROBBINS who is listed on the 1840 Saline Co census and then on the 1850 Carroll Co census. Believe he came from VA. Does anyone know of any specific area in VA that provided settlers to Saline County c1833-1840? Is there a Goodspeeds (or other) county history for Saline and/or Carroll?

COX, HUFFMAN, RUCKEL, WHEELER posted by Kraig Ruckel on Wednesday, January 1, 1997: Seeking information on Raymond E. RUCKEL, son of Henry and Laura (HUFFMAN) RUCKEL of Miami, MO. Henry was the son of William Sherman RUCKEL, my g-grandfather. I have a copy of his obituary which appeared in the January 22, 1960 edition of the Democrat News from Marshall, Saline, Missouri which states he married Angie WHEELER in 1917 at Miami, MO. They had a daughter, Mrs. John (Margaret) COX of Bonner Springs. Raymond and his wife were members of the First Christian Church in Marshall. The Missouri Dept. of Health had no record on Raymond RUCKEL when I wrote them. I want to learn more about this family and am willing to share my substantial information on the RUCKEL family with interested parties.

BREDER, DIERKING, FORDHAM, STALLINGS, WILLBRAND posted by Hal Beumer on Wednesday, January 1, 1997: Looking for descendents of and/or researchers of Johann Heinrich WILLBRAND (8 Jan 1816 - 19 Dec 1853) and his wife Anna Catherine BREDER (18 Feb 1818 - 18 Feb 1896) married 11 Oct 1840. Last known descendent in Saline County was Henry Willbrand (17 Sep 1893 - Mar 1982). Other family names in Saline County include STALLINGS, DIERKING, FORDHAM.
